Day One Sober Living House Rules
1. Sobriety CommitmentZero Tolerance for Substance Use: Residents must abstain from alcohol, drugs, and any other mind-altering substances. Random drug and alcohol tests will be conducted, and failure to pass will result in immediate eviction.
Medication Management: Prescription medications must be disclosed and used only as directed. Abuse of prescribed medications or failure to report new medications is grounds for eviction.
2. Respect and Community ConductRespect for Others: All residents must treat each other with dignity and respect. Bullying, harassment, violence, or threats will not be tolerated.
Quiet Hours: Quiet hours are from 10 PM to 7 AM. Residents should respect these times to ensure others can sleep and rest.
Common Area Etiquette: Common areas should be kept clean and tidy at all times. Each resident is responsible for cleaning up after themselves.
3. Curfew and House EntryCurfew: A house curfew will be established (e.g., 10 PM). Residents must be inside the house by curfew unless pre-approved by house management.
Visitor Policy: No overnight guests are allowed. All visitors must leave by a set time (e.g., 9 PM) and must be sober. Residents are responsible for their guests.
4. Accountability and ChoresChore Rotation: Each resident is assigned household chores on a rotating basis. Failure to complete assigned tasks can result in consequences such as warnings, which when accrued can lead to eviction.
House Meetings: Weekly house meetings are mandatory. Residents must attend and actively participate in the discussions regarding house rules, events, or issues.
Attendance at Recovery Meetings: Residents must attend a certain number of recovery-related meetings (e.g., AA, NA) each week. Proof of attendance may be required. Meetings will also be provided in house.
5. Employment, Education, or VolunteeringProductive Daytime Activities: Residents are required to have a plan for employment, education, or volunteer work during their stay. Staying productive is crucial to maintaining sobriety and fostering personal growth.
Job Searches and Progress: Unemployed residents must actively seek employment and provide proof of job applications and interviews if required. Limited transportation will be provided at no extra cost to residents for the purposes of meeting attendance and job seeking.
6. Financial ResponsibilityRent Payment: Rent must be paid on time (once a week on Fridays by 5 PM). Failure to pay rent can result in eviction.
Food: Residents are responsible for their own nutrition and food provisions.
7. Personal Relationships
Romantic Relationships: Residents should focus on their recovery and avoid engaging in new romantic or intimate relationships during their stay.
Conflict Resolution: Any disputes between residents should be resolved peacefully. If conflicts cannot be resolved, the house manager may intervene and make a final decision.
8. House Property and Privacy Respect for Property: Damage to house property or theft will result in immediate dismissal from the house. Residents are responsible for the care of the house.
Room Privacy: Each resident is entitled to privacy in their room. Entering another resident’s room without permission is not allowed.
9. Safety and Emergency Procedures No Weapons or Dangerous Items: Firearms, knives, or any dangerous weapons are strictly prohibited.
Fire Safety: All residents should know the fire safety procedures and exits. Tampering with smoke alarms or fire extinguishers
is strictly forbidden.
Emergency Contacts: Each resident must provide emergency contact information upon arrival.
10. Compliance with LawsLegal Obligations: Residents must comply with all local, state, and federal laws. Any illegal activity, including theft, assault, or drug-related offenses, will lead to immediate eviction.
